Your Privacy

DNALabs greatly respects your privacy. On this website there may be forms that ask you to complete personal details in order for us to contact you. Please be assured that the data collected by these forms will be held in strictest confidence by DNALabs and only used for internal purposes such as contacting you with requested follow-up information.

If you feel that your privacy has been compromised in any way or have any questions about how information gathered by DNALabs will be used please contact us by email at privacy@dnalabs.com.au.

This document explains the steps taken by DNALabs to keep your information secure, and the rights you have with regard to the information.

 

Your Information

DNALabs establish a record (case file) at receipt of a completed application form. We keep your case file up to date and accurate. DNALabs uses a case numbering system. A unique number is issued to each case at the time of application. All case files are stored securely.

 

Who has access to your case file?

Your case file is a permanent legal document and we take its security very seriously. Case files cannot be removed from our premises, however on a court subpoena, search warrant, coronial summons or similar, a certified copy of your case file can be made for release.

 

Accidental disclosure

DNALabs have a range of policies regarding how confidential information should be treated in-house, all in place to protect your privacy from accidental disclosure.

These policies state that: documents containing personal information are not left on desks or workstations where they may be visible to unauthorised persons; information is not discussed in areas where it may be overheard; and that the computer screens have screensavers to reduce the chance of casual observation.

 

Making a complaint

If you believe your privacy has been infringed or wish to make a complaint of any nature, we ask that your contact our Quality Manager by email at privacy@dnalabs.com.au.

What you can expect (legal DNA testing)

Application process

DNALabs will treat your application form as a contract with the applicant/applicants. An applicant is a person who is paying for the test. It is important to DNALabs that you have read the application form and understand it. Your understanding of the process is very important to us. Please call us if you have any questions about the application form or the process. The person details provided on the application form and the form itself is confidential. We will not provide this application form to anyone upon request. Once provided to us, this application form can only be accessed by way of a court subpoena, search warrant.

The application form contains the names and contact information for the testing parties and the confirmation of postal address/addresses for the report. Your results are in the form of a report. DNALabs will only issue the report to the postal addresses nominated on the application form. Requests to amend the postal address of for the report will need to be made by way of an affidavit from a testing person. Please contact DNALabs by phone 1300 663 244 or email info@dnalabs.com.au to obtain the required affidavit and enquire about the process to change the report address.

 

Enquiries

Upon receipt of the application form we establish a case file. If parties contact DNALabs in relation to cases we can only provide limited information as we need to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the people information we have been provided. Personal information like peoples addresses, phone numbers and email addresses is strictly confidential ad DNALabs cannot disclose this information to anyone.

 

Testing process

If you would like to follow up on the progress of your case you may contact us to see if all testing people (donors) to a case have been received in the lab. You will be asked to provide your case number and your name. Once all donors to a case have been received we will be able to provide you with a due date for reporting of your case.

 

Results

Results are in the form of a report. Under no circumstances do we provide results over the phone. We do not email results (the only exception to this is the secure email address for Immigration cases). You must provide a postal address for your report to be sent to. Our application form has a section to be completed with the postal address of your report. All testing people in a legal case can request a copy of their report by application even if they were not nominated for a report on the application form. Additional fees may apply for re-issuing of reports. If you need to apply for a copy of your report of if you need to change the address for your report there is a process of verified consent in order to change a reporting address. If your report has already been issued, in addition to verifying your identity and consent, administrative charges may apply for the re-issuing of a report to a new address.

 

Access to and further testing of your DNA sample

If you have had a legal standard DNA test with our laboratory and your sample collection was compliant with Family Law Regulations 1984 then it may possible to have your sample re-tested in a new case for a new relationship test. We have a special affidavit form that you need to complete in order to consent to the re-use of your DNA in a new case. The fees for testing additional people to a previous case can be found in our fee schedule or on our legal application forms. If you have had a Peace of Mind DNA test we will never re-test your DNA in a further case. The parties present on the day have consented to that test alone and we will never be able to verify consent of these parties in order to re-test their DNA.
